Wooden Toys

I'm in love with wooden toys. This past weekend, I decided to take a little road trip to visit my parents in New Brunswick while Scotian was sailing in the opening regatta of the year. The kids and I visited Bubby and BubbyDache (that would be Grammie and Grampie Mustache in BananaMuffin's vernacular) for the day. While BananaMuffin stayed and played with BubbyDache, Bubby, Spunky and I headed to town for a little bit of shopping. I decided to get Scotian a pair of orange Crocs as a belated birthday gift at Wanderlust Outfitters, a great little shop located on Bridge Street in the downtown core - it all goes back to my belief of supporting small, independently-owned local businesses. After we left the shop, we stopped in at the information bureau, which also features a craft gallery of local artisans. I found the BEST wooden dump truck for BananaMuffin, and later, Spunky to enjoy, it is fabulous and came complete with a set of wooden blocks as cargo for dumping. I was so pleased.

Today, my local postman brought me a lovely surprise - my new shipment of HABA wooden teething and imagination toys. As you've read, I'm a big proponent of reducing the amount of plastics in our lives, and this is one great way to do it. Babies constantly put things in their mouths, it's how they exlore their world, and by choosing plastic free toys, you are promoting their well-being, in my opinion. These toys are lovely, they are smooth, brightly coloured with non-toxic, water-based pigments and lacquers, and gently rattle - no batteries, no jarring motions or sounds, just simple toys. The way it should be!
