A Moving Exercise
We live in a neighbourhood of disconnected streets, confused pizza delivery men, and civic numbers that seem randomly placed - but NO MORE! The city is renaming and renumbering many houses in our neighbourhood, ours included. For four years, the longest I've lived anywhere besides my parents house, we've been at 30 Johnstone Ave. as of June 18th, we'll be living at 225 Prince Arthur Avenue.
I used to love moving, it gave us a chance to purge and eliminate what wasn't necessary so we could start fresh. Mind you, I never liked all the changes of address with utility companies, insurance, friends and family, but at least it was a fresh start.
This time, we're going through the motions and staying put. I'm trying to put myself in the same frame of mind - purging what isn't necessary. I'm not doing too badly, I donated a bag of clothing and toys to Big Brothers Big Sisters last week and trying to pick a drawer or closet a day to organize and clean...someday, it will all be done. Just in time to start again, I imagine.
The best part of this address change is that I decided to have new civic numbers custom designed for us by a local artist. I contacted Josie Larsen, who is a fixture at the Halifax Farmer's Market and best-known for her brightly coloured "Those to These" designs, many of which feature a stylized Halifax skyline. I'm so impressed with her work and I love my new signs! We live on a bit of a corner, so I had two made, one shown above, the other in a blue/green colour scheme with bright orange numbers. I can't wait to hang them!
With any luck, the ease with which people (and pizza) can find us will be outweighed by the inconvenience of changing our address without moving!
