My Life on Etsy
I have a bit of an addiction to Etsy. I browse the Waldorf Dolls, covet hand-painted wool yarn and spend far too much time simply browsing through Jen Ham's online gallery...so, to support my habit, I've decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, and I now have jumped in with both feet with my own Etsy Shop, Violet Sunset. So far I have only listed one item, an Amulet purse I laboured over for an entire month of evenings, weekends, and every spare minute I had. This purse was a huge challenge - by far the most intricate and complicated project I had ever taken on at that point. I have been beading since I was 10, off and on. In university, I sold items at a local consignment shop.
Just prior to starting this project, I had completed a series of 5 commissioned necklaces for a fellow business owner who wanted to "dress up" the busts in her shop. This rekindled my love of beadwork, so I decided to tackle it head on. With over $100 US in materials, I invested in Japanese delicas, renowned in beadworking circles for their size uniformity, something that is incredibly important when each bead fits together as though it was woven. These beads were such a pleasure to work with! But, it's time to let go. Someone out there will love greyhounds as much as our family does, and will have occasion to wear their amulet purse with pride.
