Fever Pitch
Spunky has had a fever for a couple of days now, and the heat generated from his body in his usual diapers have created a bit of heat rash - red, pimply, dry, and uncomfortable looking. I've once again rediscovered my love of Stacinator Stretch Wool Covers and hemp diapers.
I was towing the hemp-and-wool line day after day when Spunky was a newborn, loving the fact that his skin was breathing and maintaining normal body temperature, even while we snuggled close, nursing and co-sleeping. When he outgrew is small size diapers, I automatically reverted to the pocket diapers I had used with BananaMuffin, pulling them out of storage and reluctantly acknowledging that my little girl is growing up so fast! Our pocket diapers are SO convenient, just snap and go, and are wonderfully easy for changing Spunky standing up, which I am doing more and more often now, but because they are polyester, they do retain a little more heat than a natural fibre. And of course, overnight is a whole different matter for some kids, and I still maintain you can't beat that hemp-and-wool combination. After one night in a hemp diaper, a wool cover, and a healthy application of Bum Bum Balm, his skin is back to healthy pink, with the pimples greatly reduced. Tonight he went to bed exactly the same way, and I expect that he'll be all cleared up by morning.
You simply can't improve on nature!Labels: diapers, skin care
