Waldorf Dolls...continued
I have very little "free" time, and people often ask me where I find time to do the things I do. The simple answer is that I don't. The long answer is that you will often find me stitching a few stiches here and there, at 1 am, 6 am, reading over patterns while I eat lunch, sewing a seam while waiting for the dishwasher to finish, knitting in the car (not while I'm driving!)...my hobbies literally take place in five minute or less increments. Sometimes, when pressed by Jenny Junebug, I pack my sewing machine and craft bag for an evening with a pot of tea at her house while we both work on projects of choice.
I finished "Marcus", a Waldorf doll for Spunky's first birthday, shortly after the actual birthday occurred. I'm very happy to say Spunky ADORES Marcus, giving him hugs, chewing his fists, and sleeping with him every night. BananaMuffin, of course, wanted to have Marcus for her very own, and while I told her many, many times that mommy was working on a doll just for her, I was starting to feel as though she wasn't going to believe me for much longer if I didn't deliver. So, last Friday night I sewed and stuffed the body, sewed the arms and head to the body, and finally hit the pillow, reasonably satisfied with my work, around 12:30 am. The next morning we packed and left early to visit my parents for the weekend in Sackville and took advantage of the two hours of driving to put the facial features on BananaMuffin's doll with the premise that my mom, talented woman that she is, would help me with the one thing I can not master: crochet. Many Waldorf dolls have a crocheted skull cap on to which you attach the hair, but after fussing with the mohair and becoming increasingly frustrated with the process, I decided to scrap the skull cap all together and simply sew the hair in rows and then attach the rows to the head. I managed to finish it all up today, and I must say, this doll is so cute I can hardly believe it. I just love how her facial features turned out, and how she looks like a "little girl" rather than a baby. I'm quite pleased, and very shortly (possibly even tonight after I finish my work) will begin on doll number three for my niece...these dolls are so addictive, but oh so satisfying to see them come to life! I find myself cuddling them more than the kids do! Now if I could only find time to get these dolls dressed...that's a whole separate issue in itself!Labels: Playtime
