Isa Mundo Update

We are happy to say that Nurtured has now donated many packages of locking head diaper pins to the Mi Bebe Y Yo program in Guadalajara, Mexico. Imagine...leaving the hospital with your precious, perfect newborn wrapped in newspapers...it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

Mi Bebe Y Yo
Guadalajara, Mexico

About eleven years ago the Junior Service League of Guadalajara, as part of their community service projects, began delivering baby clothing to the Hospital Civil. This hospital, located in metropolitan Guadalajara, serves the city’s poorest residents. In many cases, expecting mothers have no means of paying for medical care and have never visited a doctor during their pregnancy. Medical care at the Hospital Civil is free to those who can not pay for its services.

Seven years ago a group of women who live in the Lake Chapala area learned of the need to supply needy newborns with clothing and formed a group that meets to deliver the packets they make for the new mothers and their babies. The packets include a blanket, cloth diapers, a sleeper, hat and socks for the baby. We also include panties and socks for the moms because upon admission a family member must take home all the patient's belongings as there are no lockers available for storage. We see mothers walking the corridors barefoot in nothing more than a hospital gown.

The hardships these poor women suffer are heartbreaking and we try to lighten their burden by providing needed articles for their new little one. The hospital provides the newborn with a sheet to wrap him in as he's taken back to mom's bed following delivery. The nursery is used only for children with serious problems. When the mothers see the bright, pastel bags filled with warm clothing for their baby their faces light up and they're so eager to get the newborn dressed.

It is the goal of every woman in our group to see that no child leaves the hospital wrapped in newspaper as has happened in the past. Therefore, we need all the help we can receive in the form of blankets, diapers, sleepers or the funds with which we can buy these items.

Our group thanks you for your interest in our program...and, most importantly, those beautiful children and their moms thank you.
