The first of a half-dozen dolls I'm making for Christmas just had her haircut this morning - she's quite a cutie, I'm very happy with how she turned out. With big blue eyes and brown mohair, boucle and sport weight wool hair, she all of a sudden turned from a "babyish" looking doll to a little girl when her hair was applied. This "moment of truth" happens every time I make a doll, and each time I am no less taken aback by the true formation of these wool and cotton shapes into little people. I always start thinking of a name while I'm sewing up the bodies, that way by the time I'm ready to start the hair, I have a better sense of the doll's personality. Luckily, the clothing was already done, so I could get her dressed and ready to go right away. There are two more to do for this particular "family", another girl and a boy. I'll be sure to post photos of the trio sometime in October when I get them all finished!
