Glass Bottles for Babes
In support of Supportive Housing for Young Mothers, an apartment-style facility for mothers and their children, Nurtured has donated 85 glass baby bottles to help promote healthy feeding options for these moms and babes. Supportive Housing for Young Mothers (SHYM) began in January 2002 when a group of concerned community members met to address the problems that young, single mothers face when trying to make a safe and suitable home for themselves and their child(ren). SHYM is located just up the street from us, and provides housing, child care, educational and work support as well as counseling services and personal support for teenage mothers who have no family support. We support this facility as an important step to breaking the cycle of poverty that often accompanies teenage motherhood as a result of the difficult decisions surrounding education, child care, etc.
We're happy to be able to provide plastic-free feeding options to these babies, who may be in care while their mothers finish high school or pursue other educational possibilities.
