In the Night Garden
Have you ever been to a place that is so beautiful and has such wonderful energy, you just want to stay? During Thanksgiving weekend, we introduced Bubby and BubbyDache (that would be Grammie and Grampie to most people) to Geocaching and learned there is a great walking trail at the Wallace and Area Museum in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. On the grounds stands the stately Davison-Kennedy farm house, the keeper of 222 acres of forest-cum-agricultural-cum forest lands deeded to a United Empire Loyalist. The farm house, and the beautiful surrounding gardens now house a heritage museum and is where my mother-in-law gathers with other local ladies for rug hooking on a weekly basis.
The walking trails are marked by a thick layer of wood chips, very nice underfoot compared to conventional gravel, and with a beautiful, crisp fall day and the smell of leaves in the air, we were feeling especially thankful to be able to enjoy such a beautiful environment and time together. We walked slowly, picking up pretty leaves for pressing, noticing a beaver dam, walking through long grass, picking hose hips, playing by a stream...one of those afternoons that lets you lose yourself completely. Perfect.
