Breast Is Best - just not at the IWK
The title is taken directly from Shannon's Blog.
Last week, Shannon, a doula in Halifax, was asked to cover up while breastfeeding her son AT THE IWK. At OUR MATERNITY HOSPITAL. She complained to the IWK legal department, who offered an apology, but given that the mandate of the IWK is to support breastfeeding, we don't think that goes far enough, so Shannon is organizing a nurse-in, at the Children's Entrance to the IWK (near the trains, South Street), for 10 am this Wednesday. Bring your babes and celebrate the right to feed our babies wherever, whenever, and ESPECIALLY in a maternity hospital.
Let's support Shannon and all of our babies' right to breastfeeding, anytime, anywhere, as MANDATED BY LAW IN NOVA SCOTIA.
