Cupcakes with Bubblegum
After Christmas this year, our family gave up dairy, wheat and sugar. For four weeks, we felt great, with more energy, weight loss, and less moodiness, particularly on the part of the kids. As Valentine's Day approached, we fell off the wagon, hardcore.
I decided to host a cupcake party, we made two batches of cupcakes, some frosting, and bought far too much candy at Bulk Barn to decorate the cupcakes. We invited some friends, namely, The Wool Fairy and her boys, along with Tory and her little girl, and voila, an otherwise dreary February day was filled with kids laughter, tea with friends, cupcakes, candy, and fun.
For some time, BananaMuffin has been talking about a cupcake covered in bubblegum. I'm not sure where the idea came from, but she made good on her idea as she patiently applied one gum ball after another until the entire cupcake was covered. Then she equally as patiently picked one gum ball after another off, chewing them carefully, until it was bare. Not one of the kids actually ate their cupcakes. The moms happily did ;)
The thing that struck me most, though, was that after I snapped this photo, is how grown up BananaMuffin looks. She's going to be four this coming June. Four years old. The experience of her birth is still so raw and fresh in my mind. She'll be starting school next fall, and I know that time will come long before I'm ready.
Here's to cupcakes, good times with friends, and the amazement that our children really do grow up as fast as everyone told us they would, even if each individual day seems long, or tiring, it's those fun times we'll remember!
