January's Winner Is....

Heather Y! I know you'll enjoy the trio of Klean Kanteens!

As a store update, I wanted to thank those of you who have responded to the survey, we're hoping to fill in some more of the blanks soon - there are so many things we'd like to stock, but because our funds are limited and the iffy economy (how tired I am of hearing the doom and gloom!), we have to be extra careful.

I've made the "executive decision" that we will not be stocking disposable diapers nor will we carry g diapers. The feedback has been mostly against this decision, in addition to comments indicating that "if they are the same price as Superstore, I would buy them at Nurtured." This is a major downfall to a business like mine. Loblaws has many, many stores across Canada, their buying power is undeniably huge, and suppliers will bend over backwards to keep them, meaning that their prices are much lower than to those of us who buy in smaller volumes, so we would be unable to compete.

Similarly with Burt's Bees products, the large scale suppliers are able to achieve pricing that we simply can't uphold, so while I love their products, I don't know that they'll be found on the Nurtured shelves.

What we are moving forward with are nursing bras, we are in the process of evaluating several brands for price, fit, and construction, particularly for larger breasted moms where support is critical.

We're trying to find some great children's shoes and clothing, preferably Canadian made that is still reasonably priced, or if not Canadian-made, organic. This is proving to be trickier than I imagined, but we'll keep at it!

What we will have are great toys - and I know that some of you have asked for Melissa & Doug, but I personally have not been happy with the quality of these toys, so we will not be stocking them. We'll also be expanding our age range to include your preschoolers!

The store layout is coming along, with the entire store being designed around the cash counter I purchased. It's going to be great, relaxed, well planned, and organized - something that in this state of transition, is escaping me to a level I'm not happy with. We are so squashed for space that products keep moving around, it's not an efficient process but it is temporary!

We'll also have a play area, and we're enlarging the bathroom to accommodate a change area (and to make it a little more comfy to use with one or two or more kids in tow - I know I don't like being squashed in a small stall with my two kids, we can barely move!)

We're working on improving our workshop format (my husband has some great ideas for this) and I have an expert in bras and fitting lined up for workshops on how to find a great fitting nursing bra! This is exciting!

We'll be announcing new product lines as they start arriving, and we will most likely have to close for a few days while we move, set up, count inventory, and get our computer systems up and running.

Be sure to keep checking the blog for the most up to date info!
