Renovations

It's long overdue, but if there was ever a person who needs to be in many places at once these days, it's me! I'm happy to say that the contractors are working away on the store and it's coming along quite well. A few of you have dropped in to say hello while I've been working away, so thank you for that. I've also become a REALLY big fan of Local Source Market, near the corner of Agricola and Charles Streets, they make the best sandwiches and will be catering our grand opening event (May 9, mark your calendars!)

On the renovation front, the landlords have been really wonderful to undertake a lot of the work on our behalf as part of our lease agreement, they've installed really beautiful new thermal windows on the front of the store, eliminating the former white security bars that made the storefront look a bit like a law office.
Some walls were demolished and moved, making for one large store space, about 750 sq. ft. behind the sales floor are two rooms, one for storage/stock, and one office, they're good sized rooms which means we can always expand later on if required.
Part of the decor of the store includes 100 year old wood reclaimed from a home in Pugwash. Covered in newspaper, plaster, and wallpaper, as well as 100 years worth of grime, the wood left a lot to be desired, and actually was nearly thrown out by one work crew (ahhh!), but, with a little help from my friends (Tory in particular), and some stiff scrub brushes, along with a power washer, we managed to get them nice and clean. This is a something I've always wanted to do, I love the character and soul of reclaimed materials, as well as the look and the environmental principles of it. Of course, the wood is cupped and bowed and it's giving the contractors a lot of grief, but they're doing a wonderful job of making my "vision" as they call it, a reality. Thank you to Chris, Glenhurst Developments and crew for their hard work.

Since these photos were taken, the flooring and light fixtures have been installed, some of the shelving is installed, and the contractors are happily working away on installing that wall board, which will also become a counter top/change area in the washroom.

We're on track to open April 1, though not all of our stock will have arrived by then, but we'll be in pretty good shape. New products will continue to arrive throughout the month.

I have to say that the website has been taking a bit of a back burner recently. Many new products have arrived but in some cases the boxes haven't even been opened and the items have not been added to the website. I hope to get to this next week as I unpack and get things set up in the store.

I also wanted to mention that Gillian will be joining me on a full time basis to help our families in the shop. I'm very excited to have Gillian as part of the team. She is very knowledgeable about babywearing, cloth diapers and ECs her son, and is very well read. She will be a wonderful asset to the Nurtured store, and I look forward to working with her!

More photos coming soon!
