For All Time
I have this song, For All Time, by Jill Barber, stuck in my head. I love Jill Barber, the classic sounds to her songs defy trends, and like another fave of mine, Natalie Merchant, her songs tell wonderful stories. For All Time, like many of Jill Barber's songs, is about unrequited love, but I still love to sing it and think of my children.
This month in Mothering magazine, there was an article called Crafty Mamas, about moms who purposefully choose to teach their children the value of creating, reusing, and relying on natural materials as playthings, as well as the emotional satisfaction of making something from the heart. Featured in that article is Amanda Soule, whose book, The Creative Family, now graces the shelves of the Nurtured store. Other favourite crafty blogging moms include Amy Karol, who blogs as Angry Chicken, and whose book, Bend The Rules Sewing, I also own.
Featured in the Mothering article was a series of children's drawings that had been converted to embroidery and framed. With a new store and new office in mind, I set about converting one of BananaMuffin's creations to embroidery on some organic hemp fleece I just happen to have "lying around". It took about an hour last Sunday, and while I don't have it in a frame just yet, I'm very happy with how it turned out - a great way to keep these images for all time.
