Thursday Finds

There's a trend out there in the blogosphere to post your "fave finds" of the week on Thursday, and while I'm sure I won't have cool stuff to talk about every Thursday, this week I just happen to have a few things to gush about.

Last fall, I had a call from a gal named Emilie who was new in Halifax and had started an online shop called La Historia. We chatted for a bit, I checked out her website. A few days went by and that weekend was Scotian's office party. Scotian introduced me to a co-worker, and his wife looked suspiciously like the gal in the about us photo on the website. Halifax being the "small town" that it is, it turned out to be Emilie. To support new local business, I bought Scotian a Chinos Hammock, intending to give it to him for Christmas, but decided in the end to save it for his birthday. We opened it last week and hung it from the tree in our backyard. Oh.my.goodness. This is the most comfortable hammock I have ever experienced. Generally, I'm not a "layabout" type of person, as you may have noticed (LOL!), but this hammock, honestly, I could drink my tea and then just fall asleep. It is amazing. If you have a patio, a ceiling, a tree, or anywhere to hang a hammock on, you HAVE to get yourself one of these!

The story behind these hammocks is amazing, with every member of the Suazo family of Masaya, Nicaragua lending a particular skill from braiding to weaving to turning the wood to make the most comfortable (fair trade!) hammocks in the world, in my opinion.

The other really cool thing I received this week was an order of solar Soji Lanterns from Canadian gardening mail-order company, Rittenhouse. I came across these guys last year, while sitting in a waiting room somewhere, reading an old copy of Reader's Digest magazine. It was too late in the fall for garden lighting then, but I decided to pick up a few lanterns for this year. Instead of hanging these outside, I may hang them from my hall ceiling, opposite a window, for a little night time lighting rather than leaving a light on all night...but now I'll have to get more for my garden!
