Today in Photos
Recently I purchased a new camera. After being insulted for it's photo quality one too many times, I decided to retire my old digital camera and invest in a digital SLR.
Once upon a time, I was a "decent" photographer. My high school photography club (which I initially joined because of a boy but ended up truly, fully enjoying) was taught by renowned photographer and photography professor Thaddeus Holownia with access to the darkrooms at Mount Allison. In those days, I carried a 1970s manual Pentax with no flash everywhere I went. It had lots of limitations, but I got some great shots. Eventually, though, life moved on, and I stopped taking photos, with the exception of snapshots, of course. But perhaps with the arrival of this new fangled camera, it will all come flooding back.
I also haven't made any updates on my craft projects. One reason being is that progress is slow. The nice weather has my mind elsewhere, but, occasionally, I find myself at home alone and put in a few stitches here and there. The above photo is what my quilt may eventually look like, it's the example I'm working on from Quilt Magazine...sadly this is as far as I've gotten:
I'm also working on a doll. She was supposed to be a mermaid, but I think I've changed my mind. She might still be a fairy. I found some fantastic green/blue/purple mohair at London-Wul near Moncton, so regardless, she'll be punk! I'm trying some new proportions this time, the doll is about half the size of the dolls I've done previously, much more appropriate for smaller kids, but we'll see how it turns out. I'm also trying a new style of torso and a different way of sewing the arms. I'm a little nervous, but since there's no set recipient right now, there's no pressure (though I do have a brand new little niece that may be ready for a baby by the time I have this one done!)
That's the short but sweet craft update.
I'm taking so much delight in my flowers this year. I haven't got it all planned just so, there are periods when there is nothing blooming, though I don't really mind since I love foliage and ornamental grasses the most. But, having visited my grandmother's garden, and my friend The Wool Fairy's gardens last week, I'm reminded that I could put a little more effort into another colour than green...but there's always autumn for that, I love free transplants and divided cast-offs for my garden. Plant swaps are always fun!
Here's what's going on in the garden today:

To that boy from photography club: Congratulations! You'll be a fabulous daddy!
