Pip Pip Hooray

Since two days before we opened the doors at Nurtured on Robie Street, Gillian has been working with me on a full-time basis. At this moment, she works at the store on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and is the Manager of Online Operations as well as Assistant Manager at the store. She's a lovely, dynamic and energetic woman with passionate beliefs in cloth diapering and attachment parenting. I get a lot of really positive feedback on how Gillian has helped many of our families, and I'm continually impressed with her skills.

Gillian is the mom to a really, really cute 2-year old boy who regularly visits the store, and I always look forward to seeing him come in and scoot around on our resident Wishbone Bike.

Gillian hardly ever sits still, is always thinking, and has lots of great ideas, and lots of great talents. Her latest project is her own handbag and accessories label called Pip Robins. With completely self-taught sewing skills, Gillian collects fabrics from many sources, including fabric sample books, leftovers from upholstering projects, new garments and textiles found in second-hand and antique stores, vintage laces and buttons - everything is either rescued or upcycled.

Her handbags, even in the few months that I've known her, have evolved, progressed and improved by leaps and bounds. I was even lucky enough to receive a beautiful pink-and-green Pip Robins handbag for my birthday - Gillian left it on the front cash along with carrot cake and a bouquet of flowers from her backyard as a surprise for me - and it was HER day off. How often does that happen among "bosses" (a term I immensely dislike)?

Lately, however, as the weather cools, it's the cowls, or neckwarmers that have been picking up momentum. As an exercise to try out a new pattern, she made a mobius cowl for me in a combination of cashmere and silk that I had around from previous projects. I have to say it's just right for keeping my neck warm and wear it around the house most of the time - not to mention wearing it out as well!

Take a look!
