North Atlantic
In my last post I alluded to the project I've been working on for the Secret Santa gift exchange we agreed to do among the ladies of Nurtured. Among us there are knitters, crafters, screenprinters, and any number of sewing-related talents, and with a $20 budget, we all left wondering whether we would purchase or make our gifts. EVERY.SINGLE.ONE of us decided to hand craft our gifts, independent of discussion with one another. Ironically, the person I got, whom I work with the most, was the most difficult because her tastes are very subdued but funky, and her talents with a sewing machine are many.

I decided I didn't want to sew something - and I didn't feel like purchasing my old standby Secret Santa gift - Christmas Tree ornaments, so I had a look through my supplies, my books, and decided, on November 28, to embark on a project that I have wanted to do for myself for many years, with beads that I already owned. As I started, I realized that what I was doing was actually in my taste and not hers, so I revamped the project and decided to do it in black, grey, taupe and silver and would try to imitate the colours of the North Atlantic in March. The result was a spiral rope graduating in colour, broken up periodically by glass beads of various shapes. The ends I beaded in a seaweed-style fringe and included some grey fresh water pearls, black Swarovski crystals and two little anchor charms to complete the look. I have to say, it is FAR more fun to design a project specifically for someone than to simply follow project directions!
I'm so happy with how it turned out!
The Secret Santa gift exchange was phenomenal, the way the schedules are set up, not everyone works closely with every other person on staff, and so there were matches that were a little more difficult, but these ladies rose to the challenge and stretched their skills to create beautiful, meaningful gifts for eachother. I'm so impressed.
I keep repeating myself over and over again when I say how fortunate I feel to have these ladies to work with, but Jessica H., Karen, Gillian, and Jessica B. are some of the lovliest ladies I have had the opportunity to meet and I feel as though we are more like family than "staff" or "co-workers". It's a wonderful feeling to have!
